Help with Using this Site

Signposting to Links

This website is primarily a means to locate and access information on other sites - it is a signposting portal or gateway. Information about these sites is held in a single database which delivers filtered links on categorised pages.

These pages are grouped on the left hand menu as Support Services (organisations providing services and help to businesses) or as Business Types (categories of actual businesses) or by Locality. Each page of links has a brief introduction, followed by a list of relevant sites. Clicking a heading or logo for any of these links takes you to that site in a new browser window, which should be closed after use.

By clicking the right-hand Search button example button, a panel will appear which allows the links on that page to be searched by keyword in the title or description and by category. Clicking the Advanced button example button will extend the search panel and allow searching by geographic area and the selection of a range of ways to list the links: alphabetically (default); by category; by popularity; or by recency. It is also possible to select for listing of only the link titles.

The links database can be viewed as a whole by clicking 'Search all Links' in the menu. Here the same search and listing options can be applied to all the links, enabling you to filter them in ways appropriate to your needs.

Other Information

The Resources section of the menu has: a Documents repository; a video library; an A to Z fact file about business and social enterprise; a glossary; RSS feeds from business websites; News and Developments relevant to Peak District enterprise; Events in the Peak;  and links to the Business and Products directories - further help about these is available on the Help in Using Directories page..

Under 'Peak District Pathfinder' at the bottom of the left-hand navigation menu there is a subset of pages with information relating to Peak Pathfinder project.

This site is best viewed at a screen width of 1024. MS Internet Explorer is the browser of choice to utilise all the effects and facilities on these web pages.

The left-hand navigation menu lists the main content pages. The map above takes you to pages about the areas of the Peak District. The site can also be navigated from the Site Map. Some key ancillary pages are linked to on the right-hand panels. The bar at the bottom of each page moves the focus to the top of the page and the menu.

Search Engines

In the banner on each page there are direct seach boxes for the Links and Business Directory. The links pages, documents and video repositories, A to Z of Enterprise, Directories, and the News and Events pages all have search facilities with simple or advanced options.

Access Options

Top left are options to make the text larger and/or zoom the whole window - this last feature only works with Internet Explorer. If Cookies are enabled on your browser, the text options will apply to all subsequent pages of the site.

The facility to make the text bigger may be preferable to changing browser View-Text Size settings, as it predominately adjusts just the content text without distorting the layout. However, the text sizes throughout the pages have been chosen to view reasonably at Internet Explorer's View-Text Size of 'Larger' and below.

Your browser will print just the content of the page without the menus or header. The content should fit to A4 paper width if the margins of the printer are properly adjusted.

The images at top right are all from the Peak District: Thorpe Cloud; Mam Tor; The Winnats; and Kinder.
